Tire Swaps - Our Way

Corrosion and Rust. Bad.

While swapping tires on spoked wheels, we always find varying levels of internal corrosion. Once corrosion starts, it begins a never-ending cycle that, if not treated, will develop into rust. Stopping rust as soon as possible after it occurs is critical to the integrity of the wheel. Rust on and around spoke nipples will eventually lead to wheel failure.

Rust is not always preventable. The type and quality of the materials used during assembly play a large role in corrosion resistance; however, all wheels (not just spoked) require proper, routine maintenance to mitigate the effects of corrosion on a wheel's integrity.

Rust Removal... Everytime.

We ensure every wheel is cleaned of corrosion and every spoke is physically checked for tightness, every nipple torqued, and the wheel trued, if required.

Ways to mitigate wheel corrosion

  • Tires. Timely tire changes allow for proper inspection of the inside of the wheel, where the problem starts. When replacing tires, always replace the tube and rim strip, too. Noteworthy. Tire manufacturers recommend replacing tires every 3-5 years. Several factors affect this timeline.
  • Scheduled Maintenance. Always follow your vehicle manufacturer's Scheduled Maintenance service intervals. Noteworthy. Not all service items are mileage based. Engine oils, fluids, and other items degrade over time.
